FAQs

What do I need to bring with me for the sessions?

Don't panic if you don't have specific hockey equipment, we can provide sticks and shin pads where they're needed. Just make sure you're wearing something you're comfortable moving around in and trainers. A water bottle is always handy too

What is Flyerz Hockey?

Flyerz hockey is an adapted version of the game to make sure everyone can enjoy playing hockey. This taster session is an introduction to flyerz hockey where you'll have the opportunity to practice a few skills and play some games. Parents and carers are also very much invited to take part as well. More the merrier as far as we're concerned!

What is New to Hockey and Back to Hockey?

If you're completely new to hockey or haven't played in years, then come and join us for this session where we'll go through some skills, techniques and most importantly have some fun! This session if for anyone over the age of 6 - so it's perfect for introducing little ones, bringing along a friend or playing as a family.

Who is the coaching workshop aimed at?

Our coaching workshop are for those interested in getting into coaching and would like to gain some skills and confidence in being able to support club sessions. We'll take you through leading warm ups and cool downs as well as some ideas for creating drills specific to different areas of the game.

How old do my children need to be to take part in the junior training?

The training is best suited for children aged 9 - 15 years old.

What is Hockey Fit?

Hockey is a fab workout for legs, bums and tums as well as improving your cardio fitness. But playing in competitions and matches isn't for everyone, so this bootcamp style session takes the best fitness moves from the game and the workout is completed to music!

What is Walking Hockey?

If you thought your hockey career was over... think again! Walking hockey is a slower-paced version of the game, played on a smaller pitch with plenty of breaks so you can return to playing the beautfiul game. All the rules are almost exactly the same apart from one big difference.... no running allowed!

Do I need to be part of Upminster Hockey Club to take part in the senior games and what is the minimum age to join in?

Aboslutely not! Both club and non-club members are invited to take part in the senior games, we just ask that anyone looking to join in is over 13 years old.

Is there parking available?

There will be limited parking available at Coopers and it is advised to take alternative transport methods to join us for Upminster HockeyFest. We will have a number of disabled parking spaces next to the pitch, but further to this there will be no parking on the top playground by the astro and courts.

Do I have to sign up to a session to come down on the day?

Even if you'd just like to come and watch, please still come down to the event and support hockey in Upminster. There's no pressure to join in any of the activities, but if you change your mind you can always drop into any of the sessions throughout the day. Eventbrite will give us an idea as to how many people we'll be expecting on the day, but we'll always hope for a few more!

What is the John Killilea Fund?

It is with great saddness that John Killilea passed away in May this year. John had been a strong supporter of Upminster Hockey Club for many years and had been involved in our colts section through his children Freya and Nathan. The John Killilea fund has been set up in memory of John to develop and support young athletes.
