Event description

Description

The Uplift Foundation of Nevada is 501C3 nonprofit established in 2003 to empower young people to realize their full potential, regardless of circumstances. Its core areas of civic engagement are scholarships, mentoring, financial literacy, civic outreach and wellness. The foundation has positively impacted the lives of more than 4,000 youth and adults in Clark County.

The annual golf tournament is one of the primary ways we raise money for scholarships and other philanthropic endeavors. We’ve partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Las Vegas since 2004 on awarding scholarships to African-American youth. During that time, we’ve awarded more than $110,000 in college scholarships to nearly 60 students. Our recipients are attending or have graduated from variety of colleges, including Stanford, New York University, Arizona State, Oregon State, Howard, UNLV, UNR and many more.

This is where you come in. Sponsorship enables us to help more students and provide more robust scholarship awards. We have opportunities ranging from $150 to $2,000. Research shows that financial concerns prohibit many academically talented and deserving young people from pursuing higher education; many others attend college but have to drop out due to financial issues, never obtaining their degree. Scholarships have helped scores of collegians graduate from college. For many, that degree changed their lives and the trajectory of families’ lives.

For many recipients, the funds have been the difference between going to college and staying home. It helped Nchekwube Mbamala leave his troubled West Las Vegas neighborhood, attend school in Texas and earn a master’s degree from Louisiana State University (his thesis was on the Evaluation of Microfacies Controls on Hydrocarbon Seal Quality). He’s now a geophysicist at Shell Oil in Houston. The scholarship funds also aided Karl Kumodzi with achieving his dream of attending (and graduating from) Stanford University in California. Their stories should be rule, not the exception.

Your financial support can help us make than happen. Included with this letter is a sponsorship package with more information on the benefits received for your tax-deductible support. In addition to sponsorship, you can also provide gifts and prizes for the raffle or donate online via our website. Our scholarship recipients are future business, community and political leaders; we hope you will support them. This tournament will be a great time for a good cause. I can be reached at 702-994-6570 or ekb1968@yahoo.com. Thank you for your time and your consideration.
