Event description

Uplift Charity’s Refugee Tutoring Program

Developed in 2016, our goal has always been to provide refugee students with the tools they need to succeed in school. Our students and families have all come to this country as refugees, meaning that they often need one-on-one attention to prevent them from falling behind in school. We at Uplift Charity hope to do all that we can to ensure that these students are successfully able to acclimate to their new home and culture and thrive in school. In order to achieve this, we focus on our students, providing them with assistance in their schoolwork and by providing them with tutors who can act as mentors to help through anything they may be going through. We hope that through these efforts, our students will have the ability and the confidence to attend a recognized university and ultimately pursue any profession they should desire.

We now have 3 platforms to include as many people as possible in our program.

  • For the past 3 years, we have relied on using central locations where our tutors and students could meet in person to complete tutoring sessions. This year, we will continue use of one of those, to meet the needs of our students.
  • Saturdays 10am-12pm in the City of Garden Grove

  • Tutors set up weekly 2 hour meetings virtually, eliminating the need for transportation and allowing more flexibility in scheduling for our tutors and students

  • We send tutors to the homes of clients to tutor their assigned student for 2 hours
  • Must be 18 or older to participate on this platform
