Event description

Description

Join us for a day-long event on Monday, December 3rd in Columbia, SC to celebrate the culmination of the 4-year SC PHASE Pedestrian Planning Project and to create a launching point for communities across South Carolina to continue to advance walkability. With funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, DHEC has led the SC PHASE Pedestrian Planning Project through the development of 16 pedestrian plans across the state - all with unique contexts, goals, study areas, and outcomes. The Grand Finale event will be a workshop to share success stories, discuss lessons learned, collaborate with peer communities, and identify new strategies to advance local project implementation. (Note: This is the new, rescheduled date for the event postponed in September due to Hurricane Florence.)

Check-in begins at 9:30am. The day's agenda includes:

  • Success Stories - Shared by four community guest speakers (one from each region of the state)
  • Planning, Funding, and Implementing Pedestrian Projects - Gregory Sprouse of Central Midlands Council of Governments
  • Advancing a Walkability Agenda - Laura Ringo, Partners for Active Living
  • Lunch (provided on-site)
  • Series of Small Group Breakout Sessions - Rolling up our sleeves to get to work together
  • New Resources for Advancing Walkability - DHEC

Please register to attend no later than November 26th. Lunch is provided and there is no cost to attend. We look forward to having your voice in the conversation!

Contact DHEC's Kelly Kavanaugh at kavanak@sc.dhec.gov or (803) 898-1618 for questions about the event.
