For the 4th year in a row, we're celebrating Global Fatbike Day! Come join us as we ride the trails of Buffalo Creek and explore Camp Shady Brook by fatbike! Our buddies from The Hub Bicycle Shop will have a ton of beautiful fat bikes in all shapes and sizes ready for you to ride on the amazing trails! Basecamp is located at Camp Shady Brook in beautiful Deckers, CO. Camping, food, and beer provided with a suggested donation to UpaDowna's end of the year fundraising campaign. Come up for Saturday and camp that night or just show up Sunday morning!
Our tentative schedule looks like this:
Sat: 10am-4pm @Buffalo Creek, Demo bikes from The HUB Bicycle Shop available. Multiple group rides throughout the day.
Sat. Night: 5pm: dinner starting and beer flowing at Camp Shady Brook
Sun: 8-10am- Breakfast Started, 10am- Various group rides around Shady Brook/National Forest, demo bikes available, 2pm- Event ends
NOTE: If you plan to camp, please bring your own camp gear (tents, camp in vehicle, or stay in lodge) and warm clothing and be ready to pedal into awesomeness!! Helmets are required if using a HUB fat bike, or while riding on the grounds at Camp Shady Brook. We will have a few on hand for you to borrow.
To get to Buffalo Creek from Colorado Springs:
Take highway 126 from Deckers and turn off at forest road 550. 3.5 miles south of the small town of Buffalo Creek on County Road 126 (also known as Deckers Rd.) is a turn off west on Forest Road 550 into Pike National Forest. For about 5 miles on Forest Road 550, there are various dispersed free camping sites along both sides of the road until you reach the official National Forest Campground called Buffalo.The Colorado Trail cuts through this area, and nearby Buffalo Creek Mountain Bike Area has 40 miles of biking trails.
To get to Camp Shady Brook:
From Denver (1.34hr): Take I-25 S and CO-67 S to W Pine Creek Rd in Douglas County, Take N Platte River Rd to CO-67 S, Continue straight onto CO-67 S, Slight right onto S Y Camp Rd
From Deckers: turn left at the corner of HWY 67 and Deckers rd, take S. Y Camp Rd for 2.35 mi until it dead ends. From Buffalo Creek (14 mi, 30 minutes): Head east on Forest Rd 550
Turn right onto Deckers Rd (hwy 126), continue for 11.1 mi
Turn right onto S. Y Camp Rd (which parallels the South Platte River) and continue for 2.35 mi. Destination will dead end at Camp Shady Brook
