Event description

Description

Join Signal Fire and PNCA presenting an evening featuring short films that examine legacies of Western expansionism, settler-colonialism, and Indigenous connection to land and place. Featuring recent films by Trevino Brings Plenty, Sky Hopinka, Ryan Jeffery, Caroline Monnet, and Vanessa Renwick.

This film screening is part of "Unwalking the West," a group exhibition highlighting the work of Signal Fire alumni who took part in our 2016 programs of the same name. Unwalking the West was conceived around the symbolic act of retracing segments of European settler exploration and conquest in the reverse direction, as a way of interrogating assumed histories and connecting the legacy of Settler-colonialism to the present day challenges in the American West.

"Unwalking the West" is on view from September 5th – October 20th.

Image: Vanessa Renwick. Film still from “Land of the Free,” 03:01 minutes, silent video, 2017.
