Until Help Arrives - November
Event Information
About this event
Instructors for the Arlington County CERT’s Until Help Arrives (UHA) Task Force will provide a skills training and practice to improve your speed, confidence, and competence in applying life-saving interventions in an emergency.
Until Help Arrives is a national campaign to teach the general public how to be better prepared for and respond to life-threatening situations and injuries. In every life-threatening incident, whether it’s a devastating natural disaster, or a shooting like the Las Vegas massacre, community members play an important role in saving lives Until the Help Arrives.
UHA provides fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to help our community save lives until our professional first responders can arrive.
In this training offered by Arlington CERT members, we will review essential concepts such as: maintaining situational awareness, identifying key life threats, stopping bleeding, moving and positioning the injured, and providing psychological support and comfort to the wounded.
The skills you will learn in this class are useful in countless emergency situations, such as traumatic injuries from a car crash, household injury, or events like an active shooting. Come and learn how you can be the help, Until Help Arrives.
In place of the classroom part, Arlington County has made available the online UHA class content, which may be watched at times convenient to you, and preferably before the hands-on practice. You may access this three-section online class at: https://emergency.arlingtonva.us/uhabyarlcert.
Skills covered in hands-on practice include: commercial and improvised tourniquet application, wound packing and pressure dressings, airway and breathing interventions, and management of hypothermia and shock.
We encourage attendees to purchase their own tourniquet for the hands-on practice and bring it to the event. We'll have used tourniquets available for those who won't be able to bring their own.
All participants are required to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth for all indoor class activities. Please see: www.arlingtonva.us/covid-19/face-coverings.
Come and learn how you can be the help, Until Help Arrives!
