About this Event

Can you start a company on a visa? Yes, you can!

Unshackled Ventures started in 2014 with a single mission: help immigrant founders succeed faster. By providing access to capital, a unique network of co-investors and full immigration support - including visa sponsorship and employment - Unshackled gives immigrant entrepreneurs the opportunity to innovate and tackle some of the US’s biggest problems. The fund invests in first-time entrepreneurs at the earliest stages and is sector agnostic. Learn more about Unshackled's new fund and what's most likely to invest in.

Join a discussion with Manan Mehta, founding partner at Unshackled, as he shares his own experience backing startups with founders on a visa. We will discuss best practices in raising pre-seed capital and validating your product with early customers.

For students interested in working with Unshackled during the school year, Unshackled is bringing its fellowship program to Georgetown. Learn more here.

Yossuf Albanawi

Yossuf is the cofounder and CEO of pilleve, a DC based digital health company that helps care providers and patients prevent prescription abuse and addiction using data and early intervention. Yossuf started pilleve after personally experiencing and overcoming addiction. He is a Forbes 30 under 30 social entrepreneur, Halcyon Fellow, and TEDx speaker and mental health advocate.

Pilleve is taking on prescription opioid abuse and addiction, a $500 billon crisis in America that has already claimed 70,000 lives, and continues to get worse.

Pilleve's solution is a secure pill bottle and software that prevents unauthorized or over use, tracks usage data, and shares it with physicians. This prevents misuse, increases compliance, and most importantly, identifies at-risk patients before they are addicted.
