Event description

Description

The 2018 Diocesan Pastoral Conference will address the epidemic of drug and alcohol abuse and what role parish leaders play in the recovery process. Every parish is touched by the enslavement of addiction, which affects individuals who struggle with substance use disorder as well as their family members. The conference will feature experts in the field of addiction, and the current public health crisis of drug overdose deaths in Ohio. Keynote speakers are: Dr. Mark Hurst, MD, Medical Director, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services; Bruce Winters, JD, Judge on the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas; and Deacon Joseph Malenfant, Senior Director, Discipleship and Family Life, Diocese of Toledo. In addition, there will be sessions with testimonies from recovering alcoholics/addicts and family members; DEA Agent Deacon Brendan Gillen; Hidden in Plain Sight demonstration; and Narcan training and distribution. Community resources for addiction treatment and family support from locations around the diocese will be present throughout the day. The conference will open to registrants at 8 am on September 6th, with the first presentation starting at 9 am. Breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee.
