A solo exhibition of Helen Pun, titled "Unleashed" will be held at Neuberg Arts, Hong Kong from November 26 to December 16, 2016.
"Unleashed" is a series of sculptures, inspired by the button knot used in Chinese qipao and cheongsam. This exhibition is a crossover with "Cheongsam Connect", a group of cheongsam supporters and advocates, whom Helen has sought advice from for the creation of artwork. Each sculpture is inspired by a specific button knot style and is created with a special meaning and a blessing to the viewers. Some vintage and contemporary cheongsams will be exhibited as well.
What amazes Helen is no matter in what form the button knot take, it comes from the twist of a single line. Helen sees the connection to Chinese calligraphy, the vigor of style in writings resonates well with the coiling of a single thread in a knot. The energy a simple stroke can potentially conjure is the marvel in Chinese philosoph.
