Event is split into two sessions:
Session I (11-12:30 PM ET) | Session II (3:30-5:00 PM ET)
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invite you to join a virtual town hall, split into a morning and afternoon session. UTEP is a top-tier public research university and a flagship for preparing students, in particular Hispanic students, who enter a competitive STEM workforce through its inclusive, participatory, and integrated education and research environments.
- Session I (11-12:30 PM ET) will explore UTEP’s deep commitment to providing access to exceptional education. National experts will highlight UTEP’s efforts at supporting student success at multiple levels and how such efforts are recognized.
- Session II (3:30-5:00 PM ET) will focus on UTEP’s collective approach to institutional transformation.
This event is one in a series of town halls NASEM is conducting in collaboration with Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to (1) promote the findings of the 2019 National Academies report, Minority Serving Institutions: America’s Underutilized Resource for Strengthening the STEM Workforce, (2) hear how HBCUs/MSIs are working to advance STEM workforce preparation, education, and research capacity, and (3) foster new discussions and solutions around these issues.
This event is supported by the Department of Defense HBCU/MI Program and the ECMC Foundation. The audience will have an opportunity to engage through Q&A throughout the agenda. Please contact jveras@nas.edu for event inquiries.
