Explore Human Relations issues, Intercultural Communication, Self-Identity/Isms, Systemic Oppression, Community and ally building.

Lodging, transportation, and meals are provided for FREE!!!

Any and all currently enrolled students at the University of La Verne may attend the Human Relations/Diversity Retreat. All attendees are required to stay for the duration of the retreat which runs from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the camp site. A What To Bring List will be provided to all attendees. Attendees will also be required to fill out a Waiver of Liability, Medical Form, and a Transportation Reservation Form. These forms can be picked-up at the Center for Multicultural Services located in the Sports Science & Athletics Pavilion E115 (gym).

NOTE: Students who have previously attended the Diversity Retreat can only attend the Diversity Retreat 2.0 which is offered during spring semester--this coming year it will be the first weekend of March 2019. Otherwise, you have to attend in the capacity as a Peer Facilitator and participate in the appropriate training to do so.

The Diversity Retreat Goal: To engage participants on a multiplicity of human relations issues in a hands-on, interactive process; and to conduct a brainstorm and negotiation pit exercise to determine priority human relations issues to address for our holistic growth and learning.

Individuals will learn about and explore their own self identity in relationship to that of others in the community and how they are impacted by issues of diversity. Attendees will additionally learn about areas of strength and gaps in their experience, and ultimately how to become allies for each other.

The retreat experience will focus on providing participants with the following learning outcomes:

• Connect diversity with 4 pillars of University of La Verne Mission Statement
• Develop shared understanding of key terms used in human relations/diversity work
• Learn appropriate communications guidelines to use in multicultural setting
• To identify one’s foci of identity and area of growth
• To become aware of how one’s identity impacts their interaction with others
• To raise consciousness on the nature of stereotypes and their role in discrimination & cycle of oppression
• To raise consciousness around what it means to be an advocate for self and others
