Event description

Description

This 3 hour workshop will discuss best practices in university-affiliated translational research, proof of concept, startup, and venture gap funding and accelerator programs. The program will include a walkthrough of data/outcomes from the recent Mind the Gap 2018 report of 119 programs at 75 institutions, and three program reviews by active MRUN members. We will wrap up with a discussion on how MRUN can support these programs through its mission.

Both current and aspiring programs at MRUN and other institutions are welcome to share and learn.

Presented by: Jacob Johnson, Founder Innovosource

Jacob Johnson has a strong passion and history of knowledge-creation and relationship-building in the innovation community. Since 2005, his firm, innovosource, has tracked, reported, and supported the evolution of university gap funding and accelerator programs associated with hundreds of research universities. One of the resources, The Mind the Gap Report 2018, is now in its forth iterations, and include data from 119 programs across 75 universities and organizations.

Additionally, innovosource acts as a partner and support mechanism to high-tech companies and investors to identify future technologies and create innovation partnerships, POC projects, and startup investments with research institutions, most recently with 3M, Medtronic, and Thomson Reuters.

Prior to innovosource, Jacob was a consultant to the DARPA Microsystems Technology Office, and a founding member of three, technology transfer, business development and corporate relations units at the University of Minnesota.

Jacob received BA degrees (biology, business) from Luther College, and an MSMOT-an executive business degree focused on managing/leading in high-tech and innovation intensive environments-from the University of Minnesota, which included residencies in England, Malta, Russia, Singapore, and Vietnam.
