Event description

Description

29th Annual conference of the University Faculty for Life will be held in beautiful Mundelein at the Conference Center Seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake on June 6 (Thursday, beginning at 1 pm) and June 7 (Friday, ending after the evening banquet), a change from our typical Saturday/Sunday schedule. Here is a link to information about the conference center: https://usml.edu/visitors/ Those with questions can call their Welcome Center at 847-566-6401. (N.B. Only faculty/staff/students of Mundelein can use the lake.) Their Campus Bookstore is open M-F from 9-5.

Key themes include "Life Issues and the Disabled" as well as our standard multidisciplinary investigations of abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. Keynote speakers include Prof. Elizabeth Schiltz, J.D., the John D Herrick Professor of Law at the University of St. Thomas School of Law; Prof. Miguel Romero, Ph.D. from the Department of Religious and Theological Studies at Salve Regina University; and Jeffrey Tranzillo, Ph.D. an independent scholar. Prof. Schilitz will be discussing "The Contradictory Expressive Functions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Physician-assisted Suicide Laws." Prof. Romero will be discussing "Disability, Goodness and the Beauty of the Body." Dr. Tranzillo will be discussing "Life Issues and Disability in the Light of the Christian Humanism of Saint John Paul II." Our 2019 Smith Award recipient is Prof. Thomas Cavanaugh, Ph.D. (Philosophy), professor at the University of San Francisco. His prolife publications include Hippocrates’ Oath and Asclepius’ Snake: The Birth of the Medical Profession (2018) as well as Double-Effect Reasoning (2006).

More details and the Call for Papers is available on our website: http://uffl.org/. Please download and send out copies to interested prolife scholars. The more, the merrier. Powerpoint equipment will be available for your presentations.

Here is a link to more information on on-campus resources: https://usml.edu/conference-center/services-amenities/ Also please see our website at uffl.org for more info on Mundelein.

Parking at Mundelein is in the Purple Parking Lot. All trucks, vans and shuttles must enter from Highway 45 and not from Route 176 due to the weight and size restrictions on the bridges from Route 176.

There are a limited number of on-campus housing units available for a two night stay (Thurs/Friday) at a total cost of $126.76 includes tax. Double occupancy requires an additional $102 to be paid via the donation link (sorry for this necessary complication); in any case the total for double occupancy is $228.76 for both nights. Sleeping rooms have double beds, a private bath with a shower, and come equip with linens, towels, and soap. Children under 18 are not permitted to spend the night with the exception of nursuing mothers. No noise after 11 pm. Check-in begins at 4 pm; lugggage can be stored at the front desk. Replacement cost for lost keys is $175. Please consult our web pages at uffl.org for important additional information.

Those staying off-campus have several options. The hotels that are a little over a mile away are Candlewood 847-247-9900 and for a little more money Doubletree 847-949-5100. Doubletree has a shuttle service.

If flying in to the conference, Mundelein conference services recommend the airport at O'Hare and the American Taxi (costs about $40-$50). Be aware that Mundelein is about an hour from the airport and more from the center of Chicago.
