CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS for

Universal Design in Therapy: Working with Diverse Populations

[NOTE: at this time, the webinar has concluded. If you attended the webinar and still want to secure Continuing Education Credits or make a donation to the Social Work Student Professional Development Fund, you are in the right place]

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are an underserved population in the field of mental health. Social workers and other mental health professionals have an ethical responsibility to strive to serve all populations. However, many lack confidence in serving this population. Universal design is an approach to therapy that can enhance ability to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as all clients. A universal design approach to clinical practice ensures there are a variety of means for engaging clients in the therapeutic process, a variety of ways of presenting information, and a variety of ways available for clients to express information.

Universal design experts Elaine Eisenbaum, PhD, MSW and Patti Singleton, MS of the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky will provide an overview of universal design, as well as recommendations and practical tips for using a universal design framework in clinical practice.
