Unity360 Critical Race Film Series: Sorry to Bother You
Event Information
About this Event
Despite its title, the film Sorry to Bother You is absolutely unapologetic in its darkly comedic skewering of Corporate America, and as the story of new telemarketer Cassius (Cash) Green unfolds, also has something important to say about race, class, art, and media. The layers of metaphor are seemingly infinite, yet they are packaged with such sharp wit and humor that viewers won’t mind they're being forced to think.
In his first film, writer and director Boots Riley crosses genres and pushes the usual filmmaking boundaries to create an absurdist satire, with brilliant use of magical realism, and even a smidge of sci-fi. It’s a strange and wonderful film that will surely make for rich dialogue after, with Lutze Segue, Brittany King, Heather Burdick, Quincie Doucet, J Thompson, and SFPOC’s own Executive Director, Roni Bennett.
Join us for the third installment of SFPoC's Unity360 Critical Race Film Series on January 30th at 6pm.
