ABOUT THE HISTORY BOOK CLUB

The History Book Club is a project of Uniting Through History, a new nonprofit working to further acceptance of—and pride in—the fact that Black history is American history by providing creative ways for people to connect with the experiences of Black Americans.

We read books that educate and inspire pride in how Black Americans have contributed in great measure to our country, and motivate us to take action.

As you're reading, think about how you can apply the lessons learned to promote unity, combat racism, or share what you learned. At our June meeting, we hope you'll share your thoughts on the 1619 Project.

ABOUT THE 1619 PROJECT

A project of The New York Times Magazine and Nikole Hannah-Jones, the 1619 Project examines "the history of slavery and mapping the ways in which it has touched nearly every aspect of contemporary life in the United States."

Published in August 2019, the 1619 Project corresponded with the 400th anniversary of the first ship of enslaved Africans arriving in the United States.
