Event description

Description

Join to support the last step in this year’s Literacy Kit efforts! Thanks to countless volunteers and advocates, United Way will distribute 1,500 Literacy Kits to rising kindergarteners and their families on Kindergarten Registration Day this year. Volunteers will deliver boxes of completed Literacy Kits to schools along a route in the Greater Richmond and Petersburg region. Each kit includes school supplies, an age-appropriate book and information for parents to empower families to be prepared for kindergarten and reading on grade-level by third grade.

Volunteers must:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Drive their own vehicle
  • Sign a waiver and media release

Routes will be dispersed throughout United Way’s service area, found here. Many routes will allow volunteers to finish up early.

You can learn more about the initiative here. If you are interested in donating new kindergarten books or organizing a book drive to help us reach our commitment of 1,500 Literacy Kits, check out our toolkit and e-mail SelleckA@yourunitedway.org.
