Description

Unhidden Figures: A Panel Discussion on Women in STEMM

The 2016 film "Hidden Figures" drew renewed attention to the challenges and successes of early women in STEMM fields. However, women still face reduced opportunities, inequality, sexism, and harassment while pursuing education and careers in STEMM.

The Ohio State University Women in STEMM Alumni Society invites students and alumni to attend a panel discussion moderated by Nicole Nieto of the OSU ADVANCE office, along with current OSU STEMM faculty, on how to build on the awareness generated by the success of "Hidden Figures".

Our distinguished panel includes:

  • Nicole Nieto, PhD - Program Director, Ohio State ADVANCE

  • Kim Burton, P.E., AICP CTP, LEED AP ND - Associate Professor of Practice, City and Regional Planning; President/Owner, Burton Planning Services

  • Monica Cox, PhD - Professor & Chair, Department of Engineering Education

  • Andrea Grottoli, PhD - Professor, School of Earth Science

  • Elizabeth Newton, PhD - Director, Battelle Center for Science, Engineering, and Public Policy

  • Tanya Nocera, PhD - Assistant Professor-Clinical, Biomedical Engineering

Pizza, salad, soft drinks, and free parking will be provided. Registration is required to attend. Familiarity with the film or original book are not necessary to attend and benefit from this event.
