Course Description:

 

This 12 hour (2 day) course is specifically designed for the Orthopedic Manual Therapist to allow for improved recognition of vestibular dysfunction within their orthopedic population. Special attention will be placed on understanding and evaluating complaints of dizziness in our patients dealing with cervical spine pain and dysfunction.  Current evidence based clinical management strategies will be emphasized. This course will be 70% lab with emphasis on experiential learning opportunities.

 

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

 

·        Perform a Vestibular System screen to differentiate dizziness caused by peripheral vestibular hypo function, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, Central Vestibular dysfunction or Cervicogenic based dizziness

·        Determine when a referral to another health care provider is warranted

·        Perform Dix Hall Pike positional testing and horizontal canal  roll test

·        Perform posterior canal  canalith repositioning maneuver

·         Perform a cervical spine evaluation relevant to Cervicogenic dizziness

·         Perform manual interventions appropriate for Cervicogenic dizziness
