Event description

Description

Are you a white person involved in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership who is struggling with showing up as an antiracist ally and co-conspirator to people of color? Join a group of peers to deepen your understanding of how white supremacy manifests in philanthropic organizations and systems. We'll peel back historical layers to uncover how white supremacy was created and baked into philanthropy, impacting everything from grantmaking and relationships to management and decision-making. Then we'll cover concrete ways to show up as upstanders and interrupters of the status quo in philanthropy, through interactive activities, immersive content, and embodied learning.

Ali and Alison use a humanizing and healing approach that calls white people to be gentle and patient with ourselves while still choosing discomfort and taking meaningful action - a way of engaging that goes against everything white supremacy has taught us.

This workshop is for:

WHO: White donors, funders, trustees, and philanthropic leaders who are frustrated with feeling confused, overwhelmed, and intimidated by the idea of addressing white supremacy and want to feel and be ready to work in solidarity with people of color to do so. If you have a desire to move towards racial justice in the philanthropic sphere, join us to grapple with white supremacy and how it shows up in your life and work.

WHY: Too many white allies try to do anti-racism work with the same values and strategies that white supremacy promotes, and with little understanding of how systemic oppression works. In order to dismantle white supremacy, we need to understand how it manifests in ourselves and our institutions, and recognize how we can choose another path through taking tangible actions.
