Understanding Trauma-Related Triggers:

Engaging Runaway & Gang Involved Youth

December 13th, 2019 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Target Audience: Open to all former participants of Vibrant's Trauma-Informed Perspectives Practice Series (TIPPS), or other DYCD-funded program staff with foundational knowledge of trauma and its impacts on youth.

Workshop Description:

Violence among young people is an illustration of underlying issues. This workshop will provide insight into why some youth make decisions, such as joining gangs, leaving the home or displaying a seeming lack of empathy.  Utilizing short video and experiential group discussion, the facilitator will use his personal experience in the prison system and professional work in the community to help participants make connections.  Participants will gain insight on how to engage their young people using a unique trauma-informed approach and how to understand the connection between community trauma and personal trauma.

The focus for the day is to provide participants with concrete and useful tools for identifying trauma-related triggers in youth and finding proactive strategies to support runaway and gang-involved youth.  The primary goal is for all participants to leave with a clear understanding of how to integrate trauma-informed strategies into their everyday work to more effectively engage youth who are disconnected from typical family and community supports.

Facilitated by Clifton Hall, Founder/President of the Hall Leadership Academy

Please note that the workshop begins at 10:00 am. Lunch will NOT be provided.  Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch, and there are many lunch options near the training site.

In order to participate in this workshop it is important to arrive on time. Anyone arriving after 10:30 am will not be allowed to join the workshop.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations for this training must be submitted within 48 hours prior to the training date through the EventBrite registration page in order to allow waitlisted registrants an opportunity to attend.
