Event description

Description

In this all-day workshop led by Kevin Chen, Founder/COO of INTRA Group and Founder/Head of IOTA Evangelist Network (IEN), involving the IOTA distributed ledger blockless protocol, we will challenge your initial notations of blockchain and help you better understand and leverage digital ledger technology (DLT). No technical background is required.

The workshop will provide a high-level overview of digital ledger architecture with virtual talks given by leaders in the space, including professors, CEOs and Founders who discuss 1) what their products are trying to solve 2) product major use cases 3) what the future may look like once their product is implemented.

Diverse use cases discussed include: medicine, finance, audio, smart cities, supply chain, mobility, smart devices, renewable energy, media and more. By the end of the workshop you will have foundation to understand what decentralization and IoT mean to you and how this understanding may benefit you and/or your business.

Themes Include: From Centralization To Decentralization, Web 3.0, Industry 4.0, Evolution of the Internet, Smart Devices, Data Marketplace, Wireless Networks, Consumer IoT vs Industrial IoT (IIoT), P2P/M2M, Cyber-Physical Convergence, Blockchain Integration with IoT, Cybersecurity Implications, New Machine-Driven Economy, Device-Device Communication and more.

SCHEDULE:*

- 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: The Evolution of the Internet and Rise Of IoT and "Everything-as-a-Device"

- 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Crypto/Blockchain/Digital Ledger Technology Primer & Comparison: A discussion of the pro and cons of Blockchain versus alternative digital ledgers, including a comparison of IOTA's DAG (Digital Acyclic Graph) vs. blockchain

- 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Break For Lunch

- 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Opportunities & Challenges For Enterprises: Opportunities and challenges for businesses as they encounter the convergence of blockchain and IoT will be discussed. Highlighted themes will include: the development process, cybersecurity risks, new machine economy vision, recommendation and advice for Enterprises. We will also go over some use case examples including mobility, supply chain and finance.

- 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM - Decentralized Data, IoT and Digital Ledger Use Cases: We'll discuss decentralized data, including the decentralized data marketplace, streaming and payment protocols touching upon notions such as cyberphysical and more. Guest speakers will join us virtually to discuss use cases in Healthcare, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Smart Devices, Audio, Wind/Renewable Energy and more. Q&A will follow the session.

BIOS:

About The Instructor: Kevin R. Chen is the Founder and COO of INTRA Group, a next-generation mobility testing, validation, and solutions as-a-Service startup. He is also the Founder and Head of the IOTA Evangelist Network (IEN), a global group looking to spread IOTA awareness and adoption in their respective countries. He was previously the Evangelist at the IOTA Foundation, with focus on business development and adoption strategy.

Prior to IOTA, Kevin spent several years on Wall Street as a technologist: first at Citigroup Global Markets as an application developer, then at a $3+ billion credit hedge fund Aristeia Capital as a data analyst. He was passively interested in Bitcoin since 2012-2013 but was fully drawn into the blockchain/cryptocurrency space in early-mid 2016 with the rise of Ethereum. Finally, Kevin became involved with IOTA as its "blockless" Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) bypasses the scalability issues that have been plaguing blockchains, plus it is also feeless. Therefore, IOTA's Tangle protocol is highly applicable to IoT/M2M microtransactions and can catalyze the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution. Kevin graduated from the University of Virginia with a Computer Science degree, passed Level II of the CFA program, hold the Software Product Management (SPM®) Certificate from The Product School, and completed the MIT Fintech: Future Commerce online course. Kevin is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Peace Innovation Foundation.
