Understanding Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements - Bethel University
Thu, March 30, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM EDT
We hope to help community members understand the new public school graduation requirements.
"The supervisory union will identify and adopt a set of core knowledge and transferable skills that they believe every student should know and display in order to graduate. These skills and content areas will build from Pre-K to graduation. All Bethel's students will demonstrate proficiency in all these areas prior to graduation. Core knowledge is the content that all students must know. Transferable skills are the work habits and character traits that our communities deem important in today’s society and workplaces. This course will give a better understanding of new State of Vermont, Agency of Education requirements for all public school students, faculty and parents.
A. Graduation requirements. The graduating class of 2020 (this year's freshman class) will graduate by measuring their proficiency in several areas.
B. Vermont Legislative Act 77 and Rule 2000 Education Quality Standards. This law and rule create the conditions for the transformation of secondary public education in Vermont. Highlights in this legislation and rule are Personal Learning Plans, PLPs, Community and Work Based Learning, CBL & WBL, and dual enrollment in college and high school classes."
