Event description

Description

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created Opportunity Zones, a new investment tool designed to drive long-term equity capital to low-income communities nationwide. California’s Opportunity Zones have been selected, but at a local and regional level, what does this mean for designated low-income communities and the array of organizations that serve them?

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Enterprise Community Partners, and PolicyLink invite Bay Area community-based organizations, investors, developers, philanthropy, public sector partners, and other stakeholders to a knowledge-sharing event about Opportunity Zones, where we’ll discuss the following questions:

-- What do we know about the current interests and needs of residents and businesses within Opportunity Zones in the Bay Area, and what can be learned from their prior experiences with private investment?
-- From a technical perspective, what types of investments will be feasible through Qualified Opportunity Funds?
-- How can local and state partners prepare for and engage with this new tool? What roles can different sectors play to ensure that low-income communities benefit from and participate in the economic growth and development generated by Opportunity Zones and Funds?

Speakers include:
Fred Blackwell, CEO, The San Francisco Foundation
Melissa Jones, Executive Director, BARHII (Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative)
Michael Novogradac, Managing Partner, Novogradac & Company
Lori Chatman, President, Enterprise Loan Fund
Christopher Coes, Vice President of Real Estate Policy and External Affairs, SmartGrowth America
