Event description

Description

When designing a curriculum, or even setting up the physical space for learning, what values are we communicating? What limits, or lack thereof, do we put in place to reach desired student outcomes? How might we better integrate Openness into our design to allow for the greatest opportunity for our students?

Join us for Understanding Openness, a new community of practice exploring the ideas of Openness as they manifest across contexts - from the Internet to learning environments to games, and more. In this first of six monthly workshops, we will be exploring Openness from a learner's perspective. Register now for your free spot at our first workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8:30pm!

All HIPC III workshops, structured to enable a community of practice around Openness, are FREE to attend and will feature game-based professional development for educators and other interested folks. All workshops will feature food and drinks.

Got a question? Please reach out to Nathalie at nrayter@adlerplanetarium.org.

About HIPC III: This workshop series is the work of the Hive Interoperability & Portability Coalition III, composed of partners from the Adler Planetarium, Forall Systems, Inc., and Ci3′s GameChanger Chicago at the University of Chicago. In the current phase "Understanding the Open Internet," we hope to get learning program providers on board with concepts intrinsic to Hive Chicago in ways and contexts that are accessible to them. The workshops, which will explore concepts like Openness, Transparency, Agency, and Portability, will emphasize collaborative dicussion and fun, game-based activities that straddle digital and analog frameworks for understanding. Six workshops will take place over the course of the grant, open to all members of the Hive and other learning program providers in Chicago.

This program is made possible through a grant from the Hive Chicago Fund for Connected Learning and the Chicago Community Trust.
