Welcome to the Mental Health Workshop – Understanding How to Support Youth Mental Health! Join us in the Events Foyer at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre

This free workshop is open to all clubs affiliated with Swimming WA.

Overview
This workshop builds knowledge, skills, and confidence in recognising and supporting the mental health of youth in community sport. Participants will explore the role sport plays in promoting and protecting youth mental health, learn practical strategies that coaches, managers, and volunteers can use to support members experiencing mental health concerns, and consider how clubs can proactively foster wellbeing and strengthen access to appropriate support services.

By the end of the presentation participants will be able to:

  • Understand the important role that sport plays in recognising and supporting youth mental health.
  • Recognise signs of common youth mental health challenges in a sporting context.
  • Use supportive, age-appropriate support strategies with young members.
  • Utilise existing resources to promote access to support including identify referral pathways and knowing when and how to escalate concerns for professional help.
  • Contribute to a positive sporting culture that actively promotes youth mental health and wellbeing.
