EVENT OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the research on poverty and trauma and their impact on young children.

  • Identify community partners that can help aid families and children experiencing poverty and trauma.

  • Plan strategies and resources to help promote Kindergarten readiness and success for families experiencing poverty and trauma.

  • Earn 5 Ohio Approved Credits

TARGET AUDIENCE: Early Childhood Care Professionals, Pre-School Teachers, Kindergarten Teachers and Elementary Principals, Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants, Social Workers, Counselors, and anyone else working with children birth through six.

AGENDA:

8:00-8:30 AM – Registration

8:30-9:00 AM – Community Update - Pam Perrino, MS.Ed., Early Childhood Advocate and Educational Consultant

9:00- 11:00 AM – Poverty in the Mahoning Valley - Shelia Triplett, BA,MA, LSW, Executive Director Mahoning Youngstown Community Action and Patti Matthews Wanat, MS Ed, Owner, Comprehensive WorkLife Solutions, and Pam Perrino, MS.Ed., Early Childhood Advocate and Educational Consultant

11:00 – 12:30 PM – Lunch (on your own) and Visit Community Resource Tables

12:30 – 3:30 PM- Toxic Stress to Safe Zone - Christine Frey, MEd., QMHS, RA, ECMH Consultant/Master Trainer, Crossroads Early Childhood Services

5 hours of Ohio Approved Credit pending approval and 5 contact hours for Ohio Department of Education, Early Childhood Mental Health Credential Renewal
