Registration 8:30am with coffee served. Morning session begins promptly at 9:00am

Speakers: Christiana Bratiotis, PhD, MSW and Jesse Edsell-Vetter

Conference Description: Hoarding is a challenge for professional across a diverse group of professions. This training will assist professionals in the use of tools to properly assess hoarding, understand the underlying issues contributing to hoarding behaviors and options for evidence-based intervention options. Breakout groups will allow role specific training – one for code enforcement, housing, and first responders and a second group for case managers and mental health professionals.

Morning Session: Introduction to Hoarding Disorder and Assessment

  • Learn about hoarding as a mental illness
  • Understand the demographics, course and manifestations of hoarding
  • Learn about tested measures to assess the severity of hoarding

Afternoon Session: Breakout groups

Enforcers (i.e. housing case managers, building inspectors, code enforcement etc...)

  • Learn the impact of hoarding on housing stability and safety
  • Explore the use of case management for hoarding intervention
  • Practice tools for evaluation hoarding

Supporters (i.e. case managers, social workers, therapist, providers etc...)

  • Understand the behavioral, emotional and belief/meaning aspects hoarding
  • Explore cognitive and behavioral strategies for intervening with hoarding
  • Practice intervention skills

Afternoon Session: Collaboration Across disciplines

  • Learn about collaborative community models for addressing hoarding
  • Identify context-relevant resources to enhance capacity for response
  • Plan actionable steps for implementation following conference
