Blockchain is probably best known as the technology originally devised for the digital currency Bitcoin. However, the underlying technology has enormous potential as Blockchain is essentially a central ledger or distributed database that is owned by everyone and yet owned by no-one.

Join us on Wednesday, November 28th as we discuss “Understanding Blockchain in Layman’s Terms.” The panel will discuss why blockchain is so much more than Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. You will gain an understanding of how this technology can positively disrupt your current method of recording financial transactions and the impact it will have on your business.

Thad Eidman, COO/CFO, Acreto IoT Security

Thad is the COO/CFO for Acreto IoT Security, based in Jersey City. Acreto provides a cloud-based platform that enables security for IoT Ecosystems, with a focus on Ecosystems that utilize crypto-technologies such as blockchain.

Thad has been involved in technology start-ups since 1994 when he co-founded iFleet, a company focused on providing E911 services to commercial truck fleets based on newly available GPS technologies. Following iFleet, Thad spent time as a venture capitalist before he co-founded Knoa Software in 2003. As the CEO of Knoa, Eidman led the growth of the company to more than 235 global enterprise customers, including 15 from Fortune 50 companies. Knoa’s end-user performance management solution was used as the benchmark to establish new Forrester and Gartner solution quadrants.. After stepping down as the CEO at the ten-year mark, Eidman co-founded Corserva, a start-up focused on providing managed IT services to mid-market businesses. Corserva was reverse merged into PCNet, a Connecticut-based value added reseller.

Eidman has extensive experience in the start-up, operation and scaling of new companies and was recognized as a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the New York City region. He holds an MBA in finance from the University of Texas.

Linda Kristoffersen, US Blockchain Program Manager, KPMG

Linda is a part of KPMG's Advisory practice and the US Blockchain program team. She has extensive experience with IT implementations, business process optimization, technology enablement for supply chain operations and develops global regulatory compliance programs pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

Linda is specifically focused on Life Sciences industry applications of blockchain and is the US Blockchain program manager, supporting KPMG’s blockchain strategy and go to market approach across KPMG’s Audit, Tax, and Advisory practice areas and working across numerous industries and functional areas.

Jesse R. Morton, Director, Southeast Forensic Services Leader, Stout

Jesse is the Southeast Forensic Services Leader for Stout’s Dispute Consulting practice. Jesse has over 15 years of experience as a consultant, lawyer, accountant, investigator, and external/internal auditor. He previously worked in KPMG’s Forensic practice and during law school worked for the SEC’s Division of Enforcement in the Financial Fraud Task Force through the Honors Law Program.

Jesse specializes in assisting clients with all phases of the fraud and misconduct prevention, detection, response, and remediation lifecycle. He provides proactive and reactive assistance that includes specializations and experience with (among other things): Performing investigations related to financial statement fraud, asset misappropriation, and/or illegal acts and regulatory compliance/violations; conducting anti-money laundering (BSA/AML) and anti-bribery/corruption (FCPA) engagements; securities and trading violations engagements; mortgage and loan origination/ servicing fraud engagements; conducting fraud risk assessments; establishing and enhancing regulatory compliance and ongoing monitoring processes and procedures; developing and strengthening fraud prevention, detection, and response controls and anti-fraud programs including corporate governance; performing asset tracing and financial analysis, including for blockchain/digital assets/cryptocurrencies; insider threat and third party risk management; and, litigation assistance including expert witness support and litigation consulting. Jesse typically focuses on clients in the financial services sector, and has a niche specialization working with investment managers, but he has also worked with clients in many other sectors.

Jesse also regularly writes, speaks, and teaches on topics related to fraud prevention, detection, response, and remediation. Prior to joining Stout, Jesse wrote for Thomson Reuters Westlaw Business on topics related to domestic and international securities and public filing trends and disclosures, and also served as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University teaching Fraud & the Law—a Master’s-level accounting, MBA, and forensic certificate course for four years.
