Description

PLEASE NOTE: Presentations by McLean School Nurse Liaison Project are open ONLY to staff from schools enrolled with MSNLP, or who are in the process of enrolling. People who are not school staff unfortunately may not attend.

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety is the most prevalent mental illness in America, and has been increasing, particularly among our youth. Symptoms of anxiety are often difficult to recognize, and are easily mistaken for physical illnesses, manipulation, or laziness. Efforts to alleviate it often actually make the symptoms worse. This presentation, designed for those with limited clinical experience treating anxiety, will help nurses, counselors, and other school staff learn:

  • The physiological processes involved in anxiety
  • How to recognize anxiety symptoms among your students
  • How best to support students struggling with anxiety, without exacerbating the symptoms.
  • The importance of collaboration between the school and home to address this issue.

Who should attend?

School nurses, counselors, and teachers from schools which are enrolled with the McLean School Nurse Liaison Project. Please note you MUST use your school email to register!

If your school or district is not enrolled, contact the organizer for enrollment information. You may go ahead and register for this event while the enrollment process is proceeding. Your school must complete enrollment prior to the event for you to attend.

If you are staff from the hosting school/district, you do not need to register to attend.
