Understanding and Improving the US Healthcare System-6 wk Facilitated Class
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7:15 PM to 8:45 PM (PDT)
This course is a 6 week facilitated class from October 8, 2013 through November 12, 2013. We will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7:15PM. The $25 fee covers the entire 6-week course.
The 1088 Society is facilitating study groups that will (i) guide interested lifelong learners in enrolling in on-line college courses, (ii) facilitate learning by providing an in-person forum to view classes and compare insights, and (iii) facilitate the building of relationships between community members.
Our inaugural class is Understanding and Improving the US Healthcare System by Prof. Matthew Davis, M.D. This is a University of Michigan class for which on-line access will be provided by Coursera. (Go to https://www.coursera.org/course/ushealthcare to view a short video overview of the class and access other course information). Each class will consist of approximately 60 minutes of didactic material, delivered in 8- to 15-minute video segments comprised of lecture, thought exercises, and rare archival footage.
Format: Our study group will meet in-person every week during the course. During study group sessions, we will view approximately one hour of material, compare thoughts and insights on the subject material and provide guidance in navigating through the course and web site.
Meetings: Our first meeting will be Oct 8 at 7:15PM and will run approximately 1 ½ hours. We will (generally) be meeting every Tuesday at the same time for the duration of the 6-week course (last session November 12). St. Paul's Towers will provide refreshments (tea, coffee, cookies) during the study group meetings.
BART/Parking for St. Paul's Towers: Street parking is available, but leave ample time to park. 19th street BART is about .8 miles away. See http://www.jtm-esc.org/spt/map.html for more specific directions.
