Event description

Description

The Understanding and Accessing Union Apprenticeships Workshop is for guidance counselors, CTE, STEM, math and science educators, administrators, and workforce development professionals.

There has been increased interest in apprenticeship opportunities in the building trades yet there is still a lack of knowledge regarding alignment with the K-12 and postsecondary systems, CTE and STEM initiatives, and current investments of the workforce development system. This workshop seeks to address those gaps.

Participants will experience the trades first-hand through fun and informative activities led by instructors from the trades. Become “the student" during applied math and science lessons which will help incorporate real world scenarios into lesson plans. Take tours of local training centers, receive awareness training focusing on the career opportunities in the trades, and learn about how students can qualify and apply for apprenticeship.

Groups will tour two of the following locations: the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center, the Sheetmetal Institute, the Pacific Northwest Carpenter's Institute, and the Laborers Training Center. There will be a choice of two trade workshops to take at each tour location.

Agenda and workshop presenters will be updated at www.bit.ly/unionapprenticeships as plans are finalized.

7 PDU credits available through Willamette Promise.
