Event description

Description

Live Music. Dinner. Open Bar. You're invited to the beautiful farm owned by John & Bob Barker, who have revitalized numerous downtown buildings and who received DSI's 2015 Downtown Advocates Award.

"Let's Go Crazy for Downtown" on Prince's birthday!

All in support of DSI's efforts to revitalize historic downtown Springfield. More than 4/5ths of DSI's annual budget comes from patrons like you. Funding that allows us to produce events like Downtown Open Streets, the Art Alley Pop-Up and Farmers Market Street Dinner. Funding that allows us to manage the public art project ARTification, the Old Capitol Farmers Market (voted best community event in 2017!), and handle myriad public policy issues from graffiti to parking as a downtown business district. Funding that allows us to work to fill downtown vacancies and matchmake spaces for businesses and residents alike. Funding that allows us to do public space projects like the recent "refresh" of the Old State Capitol Plaza.

"Downtowns in many American communities have experienced more than fifty years of neglect, abuse, and abandonment. Fortunately over the last two decades this trend has slowly begun to shift. Today, cities of all sizes have implemented plans to revitalize, re-grow, and reinvent their downtowns [led by organizations like Downtown Springfield Iinc]. Why are downtowns important and why the need for all of these revitalization strategies? Because downtowns are the heart of a city and region -- and having a healthy heart is essential to having a strong city and region." - Andy Kitsinger, AIA, AICP
