Event description

Description

This professional development workshop designed for elementary, middle, and high school classroom teachers will use our collection of oral histories to explore gender and sexual identity through a historical lens. Hugh Ryan, scholar, curator, and author of the recently released book “When Brooklyn was Queer” will join us as we use the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a case study for exploring social history, oral history, and identity with your students. We'll also provide a workshop on introducing LGBTQ topics in your classroom, no matter the age of your students. Brooklyn Historical Society is an approved provider of CTLE credits. Lunch and breakfast will be served.
