Event description

Description

The Curnamona Province is a mostly-undercover sequence of Proterozoic rocks that extends from South Australia into New South Wales. As well as hosting the Broken Hill ore-body, the province is prospective for a wide-variety of mineral systems.

Share information and ideas from current mineral exploration, and from cutting-edge research by Geological Surveys and collaborative partners under the UNCOVER Initiative themes.

Geotour: Geology of Broken Hill
Tuesday 25 July, 2pm-4pm

Tour for attendees and general public to look at key outcrops for Broken Hill geology and mineralization. Bus pick-up at Civic Centre (1.45pm) for Keenan’s Lookout, Line of Lode, look at exposed rocks in this area, discuss sedimentary process, metamorphism, mineralisation and go to Browne’s shaft and gossan pit.

Symposium: Uncover Curnamona 2017
Wednesday, 26 July, 8.30am- 5pm

Current Exploration projects including:Broken Hill-type Ag-Pb-Zn, stratabound Cu-Au, Ni-PGE, Sn and Co. Characterising the Cover: Depth, style and dispersion of cover, the use of airborne EM, and exhumation history. Lithospheric Architecture: AusLAMP coverage, conductivity anomalies and the use of MT in uranium systems. 4D Geodynamic Evolution and Metallogenesis: Including Proterozoic, Cambro-Ordovician and Neotectonic geodynamics and implications for mineralisation, Distal Mineral Footprints: Hylogger applications, geochemical footprints in cover sequences.

Keynote speakers
Dr Roger Skirrow (Geoscience Australia) – Mineral systems of the Curnamona Province
Prof. Martin Hand (University of Adelaide) – Australian Proterozoic geodynamics: implications for mineral systems?
Dr Tony Webster (Consultant) – Broken Hill line of lode: geology, mining and its place in Australian history.
