*NOTE: In order to attend the training you MUST read the Gardener's Tale, take two Implicit bias test one of which must be the IAT Race, and print out your result sheet to bring to the course. All links are provided in the flyer.

Mental Health of African American communities, along with health and educational disparities, present significant barriers to effectively support the needs of African American communities. Understanding and identifying unconscious bias in our interactions with individuals, families, and communities provide an opportunity to disrupt inequity. This collaborative and interactive training workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to engage and explore these dynamic topics while developing skills to incorporate into practice when working with youth and families.

Explore the impact of unconscious bias on Black adult youth and families involved with systems of care
· Build awareness of implicit biases in the workplace and in community interactions.
· Develop Strategies for identifying and addressing implicit bias
· Define and examine the principles and practices of cultural humility.

· Build and develop shared language and definitions for words and ideas often used in our community: Racism, Unconscious bias, implicit bias, power and privilege.
· Use cultural humility to examine and explore culture, race, power, and privilege in the present day challenges and successes within our work and communi

Training Objectives:

  1. Explore the impact of unconscious bias on Black adults, youth and families involved with systems of care
  2. Build awareness of implicit biases in the workplace and in community interactions
  3. Develop strategies for identifying and addressing implicit bias
  4. Define and examine the principles and practices of Cultural Humility
  5. Develop strategies for applying Cultural Humility to present day challenges and successes within our work and community
  6. Build a shared language for commonly used terms such as Racism, Unconscious Bias, Implicit Bias, Power, and Privilege
