Event Details

Because pop-ups and popcorn are meant to be ...

Join us at a new pop-up event! StoryWorks, Tides Cinema and The Center for Investigative Reporting invite you to a special screening of three films for our first UN|PUBLISHED film festival.

Going down June 20 and 21 at Tides Theatre in San Francisco, our two-day event will feature Bay Area filmmakers' works – published and unpublished pieces we feel exemplify great documentary journalism.

Our feature film Friday night is director Samantha Grant's "A Fragile Trust," a documentary about the plagiarism scandal that rocked the journalism world. It features in-depth interviews with disgraced former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair, Times editors and more. Grant will be at the screening to discuss her work and answer questions from the audience. Trailer

Saturday night, we'll be screening a sneak-peek of two unreleased short documentaries from CIR – both focusing on issues currently affecting young Americans. First up is "Alone," a film that investigates the solitary confinement of teenagers in one of the biggest adult jails in the U.S. The second feature, "Broken City Poets," is a groundbreaking short that looks at what happens when young artists face facts and use poetry as a vehicle for analysis and empowerment. A panel featuring the filmmakers, journalists and other special guests involved in making these films will take place after the viewing. Trailer for "Broken City Poets"

Tickets are only $10, and include a beer (or soda if you or your guest is under 21) and a special gift upon entry! A limited run of "The Box," an intense graphic novel about one teen who spent 300 days in isolation at New York City's Rikers Island jail, has been produced for the event.

We're so honored to host these incredible films, their collaborators and you. We'll see you at the movies!

When: June 20 and 21; mixer 7:30 p.m.; screening at 8 p.m.

Where: Tides Theatre, 533 Sutter St., Second floor, San Francisco
