About this event
Food systems are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and they are intrinsically connected to the challenges facing the global community, from food insecurity and healthy diets to resource conservation and climate change. The COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated the vulnerabilities of the global food system and highlights the need to reshape them to build back more resilient and inclusive, environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant communities. The Food Systems Summit offers a catalytic moment for global public mobilisation and actionable commitments to invest in diverse ways to transform food systems by making them more sustainable, inclusive and resilient, to support peace and development.
Action Track 5 (AT5) – building resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stresses – is proposing actions to ensure that food systems, which are affected by conflict, environmental and economic shocks and stresses, can maintain functionality, recover from the effects of harmful events, and improve to a better-off state. These actions include a focus on “productive disruption” in the context of global challenges, such as the health pandemics, biodiversity loss and the global climate crisis.
Get involved
Over the past several months, we have started to define the nature of the tasks that AT5 will take on and how to implement them. To inform our next steps we want to canvas ideas and create opportunities for you to participate, so we can listen to your ideas and input. Together with the AT5 leadership team: Chair Dr Saleemul Huq (ICCCAD), the Vice-Chairs Sandrine Dixson (Club of Rome) and Mike Khunga (SUN Youth Movement), the UN Anchor Agency – WFP, and members of the Summit’s Scientific Group, we will share the issues and challenges that we are defining under this Track; as well as the solutions we are identifying and that we would want addressed at the end of the process. In this regard, we would like your reflections on the following three questions:
• How can AT5 best identify all of the key issues: the political, economic, social and environmental factors that can assist or impede success?
• What are the key cross-cutting levers of change between areas such gender, innovation and financing?
• What are key synergies and/or trade-offs that should be addressed in AT5?
You are encouraged to join the conversation in the forum's live chat function.
