Event description

Description

The United Nations Association of Orange County (UNA-OC) cordially invites you to our UN Day Gala Celebration: Human Rights, Close to Home. Please join us for an evening of celebration, inspiration, and chance to make your highest bid on incredible and unique items in our silent auction! Learn about the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals eliminating poverty and hunger right here at home, discussion on sustainable housing, and human rights in our community.

As we commemorate the 73rd Anniversary of the United Nations to a three-course dinner, UNA-OC is pleased to present awards recognizing community partners who have displayed an outstanding record of improving conditions in our local community. We are honored to have Dr. Richard Matthew (BA McGill; Ph.D. Princeton) be one of our keynote speakers. Dr. Matthew is an esteemed Professor of International and Environmental Policies at the School of Social Ecology and Social Sciences at the University of Irvine, who also has a considerable amount of experience working with the United Nations in a variety of capacities. We also have the pleasure of having Troy G. Wolfe, Senior Director of UNA Education Programs & Learning at the United Nations Foundation in Washington DC. He holds an M.A. in Communications, Computing, and Technology from Columbia University, and a B.A. in English with a minor in Education from Lincoln University in Lincoln University, PA. Troy has extensive knowledge of international development, and plays an advisory role to UNESCO’s Center for Global Education Nigeria, serving on the board of the Global Education Coalition – a network of New York-based businesses dedicated to global education.

We will also have an update on the Adopt A Future Campaign that will close at the end of the year. Your support is much needed to meet its goal of raising $30,000 to build classrooms in refugee camps overseas that will be sustainable for more than a decade. We will provide you with information on how you can take part in this crucial campaign to help save a generation of children by giving them an education they desperately need to create change.

Your participation demonstrates your commitment towards a humanitarian cause that is paramount in the minds of U.S. citizens today. Join us as we celebrate Human Rights, Close to Home, and the UN Global Goals!
