Event description

Description

Join us for Umoja’s foundational learning series in Restorative Justice, which lays the essential groundwork for the self-awareness and skills required of a restorative practitioner in educational settings!

We'll engage in experiential activities in which we explore mindsets and cultivate self-awareness about relationships, community, and conflict. Building on this foundation, we'll learn proactive and responsive restorative practices to prevent and address harm, specifically community building circles and restorative conversations.

There are TWO sets of dates to choose from: July 24-25 OR Aug 14-15.

Workshops Include:

Foundations of Restorative Justice
Community Building Circles: A Proactive Restorative Practice
Check Yourself: Cultivating Self-Awareness
Restorative Conversations: A Responsive Restorative Practice

Goals:

  • Define the qualities of a Restorative Justice mindset and explore the dynamics of harm and repair in community relationships.
  • Cultivate social and emotional awareness around social identity, empathetic listening, and personal internal reactions to challenging situations.
  • Plan a community building circle as a proactive restorative practice using core circle principles.
  • Apply self-understanding and restorative questioning strategies to engage in restorative conversations as a responsive restorative practice.

Connect with colleagues from across the region who, like you, want to start the school year with a practical, basic toolkit of strategies to connect with students and adults in new ways and repair relationships after conflict.

Umoja will provide a light breakfast and all necessary supplies. Come in comfortable clothes, excited to learn with us!

Space is limited, so register soon! IL educators can receive 12 CPDUs for this experience.

Current Umoja Partner Schools should use our partner code to register; reach out to pd@umojacorporation.org if you are unsure whether you qualify.
