Event description

Description

The 2017 UMD Disability Summit will be held from 9-4 on Friday April 21, 2017 in the Stamp Student Union’s Colony Ballroom and Charles Carroll Room. The UMD Disability Summit promotes dialogue and collaboration between people conducting research, teaching courses, and offering programs related to disability issues in different fields. The Summit will feature presentations, posters, and technology displays, as well as the presentation of disability service awards by the President’s Commission on Disability Issues.

Registration for the event and submissions for presentations and posters will be available in early January. Attendance is free, and so is the lunch. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Beth Douthirt Cohen, the Deputy Chief Diversity Officer of the University of Maryland.

Last year, attendees included folks from a range of universities, local governments, state governments, funding agencies, federal agencies, and non-profit and advocacy groups. Topics addressed last year included the design of physical structures and the challenges of home ownership, special education, usable and accessible technologies, diet and nutrition, the justice system, online environments and wearable technologies, and more.

We hope you will be able to join us for this important event, which is helping to build a true cross-disciplinary and community of disability studies at the University of Maryland and in the region.
