The core trio is an acoustic powerhouse of two guitars and upright bass led by acclaimed guitarist Michael Joseph Harris with rhythm guitarist Connor Holdridge and double bassist Blake Meister. The compositions are replete with rich melodies, dazzling solos, and inspiring rhythmic accompaniment. Boomtown Trio

Boomtown Trio has a big sound fueled by bigger energy. Combining the talents of renowned upright bass player Craig Butterfield, champion fiddler Kristen Harris, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Cat Galan, Boomtown Trio create a rare and wonderful combination of chamber music, folk, and americana. Individually, these 3 musicians draw from diverse influences, and unite with compositions that showcase virtuosic instrumental performances, unique and ethereal string textures, and powerful songwriting.

“Ultrafaux breathes new life into jazz, while holding onto the sense of nostalgia that makes this genre so timeless and appealing in the first place. This is music you didn’t know you were missing, and it’s wonderful to hear it anew.” -- Sam Sessa, WTMD

“These musicians can handle the complexities and breakneck speeds of Roma swing, but what makes Ultrafaux really special is that they play original music. We can come close to the experience in 2016 of what it must have been like to hear Django Reinhardt play ‘Minor Swing’ for the first time in 1937.” -- Tom Cole, WPFW & NPR

“Ultrafaux's original compositions compare favorably to classic Hot Club tunes. They update the tradition and bring the swing into the 21st century.” -- Paul Hartman, Detour, WTMD

"Ultrafaux brings the swinging manouche style bang up to-to-date. The all instrumental album is true to the roots of Gypsy jazz, employing many of the trademark elements...including virtuoso guitars and liquid, swinging bass lines.”-- Ken Avis, Baltimore Jazz Alliance

“You all gave the best performance hands down that we’ve ever had at Napa Valley Jazz Society. Our folks are still buzzing about your show!” - Bill Hart, NVJS

Review by Raul da Gama https://jazzdagama.com/music/hot-club-of-baltimore-featuring-alexis-tantau-ultrafaux-ensemble/

“an artist so fluent in the “manouche” idiom that one might say he sounds native. With an invigorating performance showing great stamina and elegant taste and style, Mr Harris plays this music with a sense of great poetry. His lead playing is eloquently ornamented and the decorated arpeggios often feature chromaticism resplendent with mordents and trills.”
