UKRI Healthy Ageing Catalyst Awards Start-up Showcase, hosted by AGENCY
Event Information
About this event
The worldwide Longevity Economy is growing rapidly, but not equitably. What are researchers learning directly from older adults in diverse settings about their unmet needs? How are these insights informing new, scalable, social impact solutions for ageing populations?
Join us for a virtual showcase of UK-based startups led by researchers who are innovating at the intersection of healthy ageing, emerging tech, and socioeconomic equality.
We invite you to tune in on Thursday, March 24th, 12 -1 PM ET (4-5PM GMT).
You'll hear from the International Longevity Centre-UK on the imperative for a multi-disciplined approach that will help everyone thrive as they age. You’ll then meet five founders who are funded by the UK Research and Innovation , Healthy Ageing Challenge Programme to turn their cutting-edge academic research into meaningful products and services that increase the healthy life expectancy and wellbeing of older people.
You’ll hear pitches for early-stage solutions designed to:
- enable older patients to read more easily after suffering a stroke, brain injury, and neurodegenerative conditions, led by Dr. Aida Suarez Gonzalez, PhD, CPsychol, Institute of Neurology UCL
- manage diabetes with an integrated real-time monitoring and decision support platform for both patients and physicians, led by Dr. Mohammed Benaissa, PhD, Dip.ing, University of Sheffield, Electronic and Electrical Engineering
- connect unpaid carers of older adults in an online chat group with peers and a support worker where they receive guidance and emotional support, led by Philipp Friemann, Policy Fellow, Care Policy and Evaluation Centre, London School of Economics
- use a robotic device to rehabilitate the knees of older adults who are impacted by osteoarthritis, led by Dr. Aiqin Liu, PhD Biomechanics, University of Leeds
- uplift people who are lonely or isolated with storytelling, reminiscent therapy, and the improvement of their social connections through augmented reality, led by Dr. Sarah Campbell, PhD Psychology Game Design, University of Surrey, Digital World Research Centre
You’ll also learn valuable feedback after each pitch from experts in policy, gerontology, and investing. We’re honoured to be joined by:
- produced and moderated by Danielle D. Duplin, cofounder AGENCY: Worldwide Innovation for Living Longer and Aging Better
Come engage with these early-stage founders to help them develop their projects into self-sustaining enterprises, move their ideas forward globally, and inform new ways for your own business to prosper in the healthy ageing domain.
AGENCY is excited to produce this event in partnership with the UK Research and Innovation Healthy Ageing Challenge Catalyst Awards, and the UK Science and Innovation Network; with program support from the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC), Zinc Social-Impact Venture Builder, and FreeWind Productions. Collectively, we aim to find ways for older people worldwide to remain active, productive, independent, and socially connected across generations for as long as possible, and to improve the ageing journey for all regardless of socioeconomic status. We look forward to having you join us in this important work!
