UK Start-up Night! Africa - London 2018

Connect with Africa's Women Global Brand Builders



Start-up Night! Africa events take place in major cities across the world and are designed to stimulate market access for Africa's exciting next generation of high potential women entrepreneurs.

For many women entrepreneurs in Africa, getting access to key global markets is a real challenge. There is a need to provide powerful platforms where established and up-and-coming women entrepreneurs on the continent who are developing innovative solutions and products can showcase their businesses to the world’s buyers, influencers, investors and collaborators. Please join us for our first event in London where you will meet high growth potential women entrepreneurs who are building exciting brands that are going global.


The women entrepreneurs and brands to be showcased from Africa:

  • Dr Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, founder of Gorilla Conservation Coffee, a high impact coffee brand from Uganda

  • Adele Dejak, founder of Adele Dejak, luxury jewellery designer from Kenya

  • Akosua Afriyie-Kumi, founder of AAKS, luxury handbag designer from Ghana

  • Kim Addison, co-founder of 57 Chocolate, artisanal bean-to-bar chocolatier from Ghana

  • Swaady Martin, founder of Yswara, luxury African tea brand from South Africa

The women entrepreneurs and brands to be showcased from the Diaspora in London:

  • Afua Dabanka, founder of Monaa and Mosaique, a handcrafted African inspired shoe and accessory brand

  • Eva Sonaike, founder of Eva Sonaike, a luxury African interior product brand

  • Hazel Aggrey Orleans, founder of Eki Orleans, a luxury African printed silk design brand

  • Mimi Shodeinde, founder of Miminat, a contemporary African inspired furniture brand

The event will also feature a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities for Africa’s women entrepreneurs to build sustainable and exciting global brands, with leading African women brand builders, including:

  • Margaret Hirsch, co-founder of Southern Africa’s largest home appliance retailer, Hirsch’s Homestores

  • Bernie de Le Cuona, founder of de Le Cuona, global brand leader in luxurious interior textiles

  • Brenda Wilkinson, co-founder of South Africa’s multi-award winning Rio Largo Olive Oil
