Event description

Description

On behalf of the Organising and Advisory Committee we take great pleasure in welcoming students, researchers and experts in Robotics to Lincoln for the 3rd UK-RAS Conference for PhD Students & Early-Career Researchers.

The conference is specifically for PhD students & early-career robotics researchers of the UK-RAS Network and will foster progress in the field of robotics research at what promises to be a very comprehensive and exciting meeting.

This year's theme covers ‘Robots into the Real World', exploring how robotics can make a positive difference to societal challenges, from fundamental enabling technologies to real-world applications, such as working in challenging and extreme environments; enabling healthy/independent living; ensuring safe, efficient transport; developing next-generation manufacturing; feeding a growing population and ensuring a safe environment for the future.

The aim of the #UKRAS20 conference is to promote quality research, networking, and community building for PhD students and practitioners at the frontier of science and technology in intelligent robots and systems, by discussing the latest advancements in this fast growing and exciting field.

Programme
The full programme will be released soon, but the event will include keynote speeches, presentations and posters from UK-RAS PhD students and early career researchers and live robot demos, as well as time for networking.

Call for Papers
The call for papers is currently open. If you are submitting a paper for consideration please do not complete registration form until you receive a response accepting or declining your submitted paper.

Tour of Riseholme’s Robotics Facilities
A free, optional tour at Lincoln's Riseholme campus is available on the 16th April. A coach will collect you from Lincoln University Campus at 3.30pm and take to you Riseholme, about 20 minutes away. The tour itself will take about 1 hour, and we expect to arrive back at the University of Lincoln at around 5.30pm.

The University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Campus is a 200 hectare mixed farming site, located just north of the city of Lincoln. It is home to the Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology (LIAT), which develops research solutions to enhance productivity, efficiency and sustainability in food and farming, and SAGA Robotics, developers of the Thorvald family of autonomous modular robots, which can be reconfigured to accommodate various conditions and perform different tasks on a farm. The tour will give the opportunity to see the robots in use, including demonstrations of robotic solutions to support fruit picking at the Riseholme strawberry farm, and robotic weeding technologies, in collaboration with Garford Farm Machinery, world leaders in precision-guided mechanical weeding solutions.

If you would like to sign up for the tour, spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis and can be claimed by checking the appropriate box in the registration questionnaire.

Note: We will release a second batch of tour tickets after the speakers have been announced, to ensure that those submitting papers do not miss out on the opportunity to attend the tour.
