This October, join us in celebrating 100 years of SOAS across cities around the world!
London: Join the SOAS Alumni team for the 'home event' on campus!
The combined launch of the exhibition 'Academics, Activists & Agents: A History of the School of Oriental and African Studies 1916-2016' and Ian Brown's book 'The School of Oriental and African Studies: Imperial Training and the Expansion of Learning' will take place on 11 October 2016.
The exhibition, curated by Stacey Pierson (Senior Lecturer in Chinese Ceramics) & John Hollingworth (Brunei Gallery Exhibitions Manager), will showcase SOAS' unique and rich history. The story of SOAS will be told in this centenary exhibition from the perspective of key individuals and their work, as well as significant events. It will also include its impact on world history, scholarship and cultural preservation.
In his book, Ian Brown explores the work of the SOAS over its first century. He considers the expansion in the School's configuration of studies from the initial focus on languages, its changing relationships with government, and the major contributions that have been made by the School to scholarly and public understandings of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
We look forward to welcoming you back on SOAS campus for this special combined launch event.
Share this invitation with fellow alumni and let’s celebrate SOAS’ 100th birthday!
