Event description

Description

The 2nd Annual "Medicine Bundle" conference is titled "Bridging the Gaps in Cross-Cultural Substance AbuseTreatment." This year's keynote speaker is Chief Phil Lane, Jr. from the Four Worlds International Institute, producer of the film "The Honor of All; The Story of Alkali Lake." Also presenting are local professionals Dr. David Derezotes from the University of Utah College of Social Work; Lorena Horse, LCSW and Shauntele Curry-Smid, LCSW, both from the Sacred Circle Health Center; respected local speaker and Navajo Medicine Man Julius Chavez; and Kristina Groves, LCSW, Senior Counselor at Red Mesa Counseling (UICSL). This year we feature a two-day experience: Friday, June 14 will feature substance abuse treatment best/promising practices that will enhance treatment outcomes for professional clinicians working with Native American clients (CEUs provided), ending with a showing of the film "The Honor of All" with discussion and commentary from Chief Lane. Saturday, June 15 will provide more traditional and spiritual instruction and experiences that clinicians and community members alike will benefit from, and the conference will conclude with an on-site Sweat Lodge Ceremony at 1:30p.
