Uhelp Ihelp is a project devoted to giving area high school students the opportunity to learn more about attending college while at the same time visiting the UIS campus. Three shifts are available:
MORNING SHIFT: 9:00 am-11:30 am. You must attend one orientation/training session either on Thursday, October 8 at 8:00 pm OR Friday, October 9 at 4:00 pm in the Volunteer Center (SAB 60) to receive presentation information for your assigned workshop. You will be working with approximately 2 other volunteers to give workshop presentations to the visiting students. Do not worry! We have the presenations created for you and you can look at them/ study with them ahead of time! At approximately 11:30 am, students will go to lunch at PAC Food Emporium. If you are able to stay, please also register for the Lunch shift. If you have class or work and the students have moved on to the next part of the day you will be free to leave at that time.
LUNCH SHIFT: 11:15 am-12:15 pm PAC Food Emporium. Please feel free to eat lunch as you normally would during the day, but sit at a table with the high school guests. The purpose of this session is to interact with the students, answer questions they might have and share your UIS experience with them.
AFTERNOON SHIFT: Noon-1:30 pm. You must attend one orientation/training session either on Thursday, October 8 at 9:00 pm OR Friday, October 9 at 5:00 pm in the Volunteer Center (SAB 60). If you would like to come early, you may also register for the Lunch Shift. At approximately 12:10 pm, we will break up into small of groups (possibly 5 people to a group) for campus tours. You, as the volunteer, will be leading the students on an "informal" tour of UIS. Once you have finished giving your tour, you will walk students to the location selected for the high school visitors to meet their buses to leave campus.
