See the "Real" Florida!
Join us for this series of hikes in recreational areas in Sumter County sponsored by UF/IFAS Sumter County Master Gardeners and led by UF/IFAS Extension Agent, Jim Davis. You'll be learning about Florida's natural resources including native plants, invasive plants, insects, wildlife, etc. as well as enjoying the great weather and scenery.
This month we have scheduled our hike at Dade Battlefield Historic State Park in Bushnell on March 22. We hiked there in November in the pine flatwoods. This time we will hike the actual area where the battle occurred. Not only will you get an education in our native plants, butterflies, and birds, you'll get a history lesson on this Seminole War battle.
Please dress appropriately for hiking: no open-toe shoes, bring sunscreen, insect repellant, and binoculars. Bring your camera so you can “shoot” any wildlife we may encounter.
We ask that you all meet at the Park at the Lodge, which is right next to the gazebo at 8:45 a.m. We'll beging with a presentation in the Lodge of the history of the park at 9:00 a.m. and the hike will begin at 9:30 a.m. Bring your lunch and beverages in a cooler. Following the hike we’ll have lunch together and have a question and answer session in the pavillion.
The hikes fill up quickly and space is limited; so register right away. Remember there is a Park Entry Fee of $3.00 per vehicle. This event promises to be educational and a lot of fun; we hope you will join us. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 352-793-2728, Ext. 229.
